Description of the Workshop

Make the teaching of reading and writing more fun for you and your students through the grade appropriate, creative ideas, strategies and activities in this balanced literacy hands-on workshop. This workshop has been done on the Pre-K to 2 or 3 to 5 levels. Susan uses differentiated instruction to meet the needs of a variety of students within a classroom.

Some of the topics in the resource book you will receive are Anchoring Students, Scheduling Balanced Literacy, A Variety of Assessments, Many Ways to Access Text, Comprehension Strategies, Graphic Organizers, Guided Reading, Writing and Poetry Workshop, Word Work, and Creating and Maintaining Literacy Centers.

Susan will be sharing ideas for writing mini-lessons and how to publish student writing. She also has a host of games for you that will add spark to your regular reading lessons and allow you to differentiate instruction.

Susan Woodcock, a reading specialist and classroom teacher, also has special training and experience working with teachers and students on study skills, classroom management and organizational strategies that really work. She knows how to make a presentation fun and powerful for teachers. Susan includes a make and take session in her workshop.
